Cole's 4th Birthday!

The Christmas rush is over and the toys have been organized ~~crammed into the overflowing toy bins~~ and today being December 28th marks Cole's 4th birthday. The entire day has bittersweet and I just can't believe that my little boy is 4 years old! As we all know, time flies by WAY too quickly and to think that 4 years has passed since Cole was born is absolutely mind boggling. I remember 4 years ago quite well and the one thing that stands out in my mind the most is the overwhelming feeling of love. A feeling I never knew was possible.

Cole's birth story is long, a bit dramatic and something I haven't yet posted, but hopefully will someday. After the 36 hour experience, I was holding my huge newborn (who ended up being 3 weeks over due, I kid you not!) and I couldn't take my eyes of him. My heart felt as though it was going to burst and I don't think you could have wiped that exhausted grin off my face if you had of tried. I thanked God that day and everyday after for blessing our family with a healthy, beautiful baby boy.

Cole, you are so full of life and energy that some days it's exhausting, but in a good way. On those days I know we've played enough, sang enough, laughed and loved enough and for that I am truly grateful. We have our arms to hug each other with, our eyes to see each other's smiles, our ears to hear the laughter and our hearts to feel the love. We are all healthy and happy and couldn't ask for anything more.

You bring such joy in to my life and every single day you teach me something. Sometimes it's a reminder to not sweat the small stuff and to enjoy life, other times it's the simplest things, something that only an adult would over analyze.

You make me laugh and for this I am so thankful. You are full of silliness and are such fun, you make everyone laugh with your silly dance moves and funny sayings...a silly boy for sure.

You are a smart boy and amaze me with how well you are doing in school in both French and English. You are writing letters, recognizing numbers, drawing and best of all, you are expressing yourself in everything that you do.

You have become quite the little guy and I am so proud of you.

Happy birthday baby boy! I hope that all of your dreams come true.

Christmas 2011

Christmas is definitely my favorite time of year. I love everything about it...from the decorations to the baking, the music, giving gifts, to our mailbox having all sorts of goodies stuffed in it.

Last year we used Shutterfly for our Christmas cards and I was absolutely thrilled with how they turned out. C looked adorable in his thermal jammies, long shaggy hair and the cutest, most innocent pose I've ever seen.

This year we had family pictures taken and I couldn't have been happier with the results and the options that were available for our 2011 Christmas card. While I was pleased with Shutterfly last year, when trying to decide what to use for our wedding thank you cards, I came across Dolcetto Designs and instantly fell in love with all of Shari's work. Not only are her cards gorgeous, she is SOOOOOOOOOO quick! I sent her our picture, what we wanted the card to say and she had it back to me within 24 hours. Not even kidding. I highly recommend that you stop by Shari's site and see what she is all about, she is great.

Christmas Blog Swap

Leigh and Lindsey organized the Favorite Things Christmas Swap for Canadian bloggers and I was so excited to be able to participate. Giveaways and blog swaps often exclude Canada (not all, I've been lucky to participate in others!), so I jumped at the chance to send some Christmas cheer to a fellow Canadian.

Family Pictures

Am I the only person out there who cannot maintain a blog on a regular basis? Pretty much ever second ~~random~~ post, I'll start with saying I've been a terrible blogger. I have been, but I've realized that's just the way it's going to be... I contemplate not blogging at all, heck I barely blog, but it's nice to have my own spot to open up when I need to.

All that being said, this fall has been BUSY...we had a great October filled with loads of family time and yummy turkey (Canadian Thanksgiving), my birthday and finally some much needed family pictures by Leslie from Lestanto Photography. Leslie is so much fun to work with and she did a great job, especially seeing as Cole was QUITE silly.

Erin Condren Obsessed...

I bet you have all been reading about erin condren and her AMAZING products on Facebook, Twitter and different blogs. I have entered every single giveaway that I have come across featuring her products and unfortunately I haven't won yet. With 2012 fast approaching, I have been trying to justify spending $50 on a planner any way I possibly could, but no matter how many times I added one to my cart, I couldn't process the order. That is, until AP mentioned a discount code of seeyousoon25 which will save you $25! SOLD! I can definitely justify spending $39 (shipping included) on a planner, especially if it lives up to the hype that I am constantly reading.

If all goes well, I should have this little beauty in my hands in 2 weeks time!! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeek! I am soooo excited. :)

I figure it's a great birthday present to me, from me seeing as Thursday marks the big 29 for me. Now if only Ryan would buy me an iPhone so I could buy one of their iPhone cases to match my planner...hmmmm.

Bullying

There are stories of bullying every time you turn around lately. I know there has always been bullying, but lately it seems as though it's gotten much worse, or perhaps we are just becoming more aware of it.

Just the word makes my stomach twist in knots.

There is talk about bullying in schools, at home, on the streets and even in the blogosphere. That last one really shocks me. I've never had an encounter with a bully related to blogging, but I really am surprised that in this amazing online community that anyone would do such a thing. Everyone I have 'met' while blogging is nothing short of amazing, being that we all support one another and give the encouragement that's needed when something is wrong. Needless to say, there are bullies EVERYWHERE.

In my younger days I was definitely not the nicest person in school. I picked on people, some for no reason at all. I'm not sure why I did it, I know it didn't make me feel any better about myself and it sure as hell didn't make me cool. Perhaps it distracted me from my chubby, awkward girl with glasses and braces phase that lasted the whole 5 years? I had plenty of friends and it wasn't as though they were all bullies, so there was no pressure to pick on people.

Whatever the reason, I was a mean girl.

I'm not going to touch on the things I said or did, I see people that I wasn't very nice to all the time and it's a constant reminder of who I once was. The guilt and shame is something that I will have to live with forever, and I deserve this on my mind. However, I know for a fact that I am no longer that person and unfortunately it took something drastic to change my point of view. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I am perfect now, nor will I ever be. I do catch myself judging people or thinking mean things, but I stop myself and the point is I would never intentionally hurt anyone ever. I try to stop myself from judging someone on the street, because really, I have no clue what kind of life he/she is living.

'If you knew me yesterday, please do not think that I am the same person that you are meeting today. I have experienced more of life, I have encountered new depths in those I love and I have suffered and prayed. I am different.'

Last Friday a young boy from the Ottawa area took his own life due to several reasons and one of those reasons being that he was bullied. This young man was an active part in the community with his father, trying to help others, but he was also gay and preferred skating over playing hockey and for this, he was mocked and tormented. Other kids thought that they should terrorize this boy for something that he enjoyed and for who he was. And their pleasure really was his pain. This teenage took his own life, because he couldn't stand the pain, the suffering, the teasing. He couldn't 'wait 3 years for things to get better', the words hurt that bad. I can't even imagine a life so terrible that not living would be a better option. It's devastating that this poor boy who had a loving, supportive family wasn't able to make it through those tough teenage years. I pray for his family and friends and even more so, for those who tormented him. We can only hope that this tragedy is an eye opener to each and everyone of them and that it helps them become better people.

This picture absolutely makes my heart ache.

I sit here looking at this picture of this poor, innocent child and my eyes fill with tears and my head fills with worry.

Worry for my own child who is now going to school and as we are all aware, kids are mean. All parents are partial to their own children, obviously, but Cole really is a sweet, innocent, caring and sensitive little guy who just loves to smile and laugh. He isn't a bad kid by any means, sometimes a little foolish, but never mean or rough, at least not that I see.

BUT, that is wear my concern comes in. I fear that he is too sweet and that one mean word from another child is going to ruin his innocence and break his heart. He is an only child and hasn't had to yet 'handle his own' physically, (not that I would encourage him to anyways!) when he is angry he yells 'no thank you' at the top of his lungs to voice his displeasure.

I also fear that perhaps there is a side to Cole that I haven't had the opportunity to see when he is at school/daycare. Is he mean? Is he bossy? I've only received positive feedback about how funny and sweet Cole is, so I pray that I am worrying for no reason.

Finally, I fear for what Cole may or may not do if he sees someone being bullied. Will he do the right thing and stick up for this child? Will he tell someone? Or will he turn his head and pretend that he saw nothing to avoid confrontation?

I am constantly trying to remind Cole that everyone is different to help prepare him for situations that may cause him to snicker at a child for something he might think is funny. One night at supper he told us that a little boy from school talked funny. When we asked what he meant, he said that he talked differently. We tried to explain to him that this is not something he should laugh at or point out to the other child, as it might hurt his feelings and that everyone is different in their own way, but I'm not 100% sure he understood it. Granted he isn't even 4 years old so it may take some time for him to understand what we mean.

New York City

This past weekend I travelled to New York City with my sister-in-law Shannon. This was our first trip to NYC and we both had an AMAZING time. We spent quite a bit of time in Times Square and took in everything...shopping, people watching, Central Park, Canal Street, Webster Hall, The Naked Cowboy...

We were able to see the Freedom Tower that is currently under construction and what an overwhelming moment that was. A moment I won't soon forget and a feeling that was the weight of a thousand bricks on my heart. I don't know how long I stared up at the Freedom Tower remembering those who lost their lives, praying for their families and thinking of all the firefighters, paramedics, security, priests, etc. who bravely helped others in need that day. It's a feeling I wasn't quite prepared for. I couldn't stop the chills from coming and the tears from stinging my eyes, but I am glad to say I was there and that I was able to witness this amazing city and see how they have started to come back from that devastating day.

Although I do have to say that there was THE cutest elderly couple there and the lady was posing with the Naked Cowboy while her husband took pictures of them...the two of them giggling the whole time. It was seriously adorable. The Naked Cowboy even picked her up for a picture...too funny!

The trip was so amazing and I am so glad that Shannon and I went together, she really is an amazing sister and I'm so lucky to have her. We ate too much, shopped until we dropped, partied quite hard (one night only) and laughed until we cried, several times. I'm so thankful that we got to experience NYC together for the first time and I have a feeling that we'll be doing it again together, soon.

I was definitely glad to get back home to my boys, whom I missed so much. I'll hopefully have a picture of them modelling their new NYC FD shirts soon enough. :)

Fall Favorite Finds Blog Swap

A couple of weeks ago I participated the "Fall's Favorite Finds" Blog Swap hosted by Caroline, Molly & Mateya and I was paired up with Alison from Life and Times of Alison & Jason. Healthy Recipes Link Up - Stuffed Zucchini

It's that time again, Pam from Our Love Nest is hosting her link up party for healthy recipes. This week I am posting about a recipe we tried out last year after cleaning out our garden and finding several large zucchinis. ~~Ryan~~ We did the big Fall clean up this weekend and again, we had some veggies to use up so we went pulled out this recipe from allrecipes.com.

STUFFED ZUCCHINI

Ingredients

4 medium zucchini
1 pound ground beef
1 pound Italian sausage
1 small onion, chopped
1/2 cup dried bread crumbs
1 egg, beaten
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed tomato soup
1 cup water

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees (175 degrees C). Grease or spray a 13x9 inch baking dish.
Cut the zucchini in half lengthwise. With a spoon, scoop out the seeds. Chop and reserve about 3/4 of the seeds for the stuffing. In a medium bowl, mix together the ground beef, sausage, chopped onion, bread crumbs, egg and the reserved zucchini seeds. Place the meat mixture equally into all of the zucchini halves; mixture should be piled up over the top. Place the filled zucchini halves into the prepared baking dish.
In a bowl, stir together the crushed tomatoes, tomato soup, and water. Spoon the tomato mixture over the filled zucchini, liberally. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 45 minutes. You may want to place foil or a cookie sheet underneath the baking dish because it tends to bubble over and splash.

* We also added some shredded cheese on top and then let bake until the cheese was golden brown. Delicious!

Healthy Recipe Link Up - Turkey Chili Taco Soup

Pam from Our Love Nest is hosting a new link up party and it's for health recipes. Most people are quite conscious about what they eat and I am definitely one of those people. I am always looking for fun, new and healthy recipes to try, so you can bet that I'll be linking up every week.

I am in a fierce soup mood these days, partially to the Fall weather we are experiencing and due to it's ability to fill me up and keep the calories to a minimum. Pam has read my mind with her amazing sounding recipe for Authentic Maryland Crab Soup. I have already e-mailed this to my home address to try out very shortly and I know both of my boys will love it.

I haven't yet tried this recipe out, but I know it will not disappoint on our menu tonight. Gina's recipes are ALWAYS amazing and skinny.

Without further adieu, here is what I'll be cooking tonight:

Turkey Chili Taco Soup
Gina's Weight Watcher Recipes
Servings: 9 Size: 1-1/4 cups Old Points: 3 pts Points+: 5 ptsCalories: 198.8 • Fat: 1.4 g • Carb: 29.7 g • Fiber: 7.0 g • Protein: 19.5 g

· 1.3 lbs 99% lean ground turkey

· 1 medium onion, chopped

· 1 bell pepper, chopped

· 10 oz can rotel tomatoes with green chilies

· 15 oz canned or frozen corn, drained

· 15 oz kidney beans, drained

· 8 oz tomato sauce

· 16 oz fat free refried beans

· 1 packet taco seasoning (you can use 40% less sodium)

· 2 1/2 cups fat free low sodium chicken broth

In a large pot, brown turkey on medium heat, breaking up with a wooden spoon as it cooks. When cooked through, add onions and pepper and cook 2-3 minutes. Add tomatoes, corn, beans, tomato sauce, refried beans, taco seasoning and chicken broth. Bring to a boil and simmer about 10-15 minutes.

Serve with a few baked tortilla chips and your favorite toppings such as low fat sour cream, jalapeños, reduced fat cheese, chopped scallions, onions, or chopped fresh cilantro. Freeze leftovers in individual portions for future meals.

Teacher Appreciation

Cole and I went to meet his teacher and see his classroom one morning about a week before school started. While we waited in the hallway for everyone to get there, my little boy held my hand tight and I had tears in my eyes while thinking that the past 3.5 years had gone by much too quickly.

I kept reminding myself that he would be fine, he is a friendly little guy and he showed no signs of fear or anxiousness when it came to starting school.

Thankfully, we weren't kept waiting long and my mind was set at ease when the two teachers introduced themselves to us. They gave each student a little plastic bag with a note and some special items inside it.

As soon as I started to read this, I got tears in my eyes again (emotional much?). The note was so sweet and each item was a perfect addition to the little package. While Cole showed interest in all of the little items in the bag, I truly appreciated the note that came with it all. It is such a sweet gesture and it helps to reassure me that Cole is in great hands each and every day.

A Side of Love

I love to cook, but sometimes I find it difficult to come up with a different side dish. Something other than the everyday potatoes or rice and plain old veggies. I have searched high and low and am pleased to report that I have come across some delicious recipes.

Baked Asparagus with Balsamic Butter Sauce (All Recipes)

Ingredients
1 bunch fresh asparagus, trimmed
cooking spray
salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar

Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Arrange the asparagus on a baking sheet. Coat with cooking spray, and season with salt and pepper.
Bake asparagus 12 minutes in the preheated oven, or until tender.
While cooking asparagus, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until browned.
Remove from heat, and stir in soy sauce and balsamic vinegar.
Pour over the baked asparagus to serve.

Pesto Spaghetti Squash with Mozzarella (FabulousFoods.com)

Ingredients
1 spaghetti squash, cooked by your favorite method and separated into strands
1 tablespoon olive oil
3/4 cup pesto
4 ounces smoked or plain mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium high heat, add spaghetti squash.
Using a couple of forks to lift, mix in pesto.
Cook just long enough to heat through, mix in cheeses, heat until everything is well mixed and cheese is beginning to melt.
Serve immediately.

Baked Squash Casserole (Kraft)

Ingredients

3 cups chopped butternut squash

1 onion, chopped

2/3 cup Cheddar Shredded Cheese

15 Ritz Crackers, crushed (about 1/2 cup)

1 egg, beaten

~~2 Tbsp. Miracle Whip Dressing~~ (yuck!)

2 Tbsp. Mayo

Directions

HEAT oven to 350°F.
COOK squash in boiling water in covered saucepan 15 min. or until tender. Rinse under cold water; drain.
MIX squash and remaining ingredients; spoon into 8-inch square baking dish.
BAKE 1 hour or until heated through.

Butternut Squash Fries (Weight Watchers)

Ingredients

3 spray(s) olive oil cooking spray
1 pound(s) butternut squash, peeled, seeded, long “neck” cut into sixteen 3/4-inch-thick sticks*
1 tsp table salt, or to taste
1/2 tsp chili powder, or to taste (optional)

Directions

Preheat oven to 450ºF. Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.
Arrange squash fries on prepared baking sheet and sprinkle with salt and chili powder; liberally coat with cooking spray.
Roast, turning once, until desired crispness, about 14 to 18 minutes. Yields 4 fries per serving.

These are just a few of my go to recipes to change it up a bit and keep supper interesting. Of course, substitutions can be made to make them healthier and still keep the same great taste!

Addiction

In my most recent blogging absence I have been busy with some new addictions. Whenever people mention something on their blogs, I feel the need to try it out almost immediately. From DIY projects to makeup to recipes and everything in between, I have been making a list of goodies I want to try.

The latest...meet Lindsey. This girl introduced me (and I'm sure many, many others) to e.l.f. products and after reading several comments, reviews and her all out love for these products, I had to try them. Funny enough, I was waiting in line to pay for something one day and there in front of me at the cash was a rack FULL of e.l.f. products. I of course added them to my order and almost ran home to see what the fuss was all about.

I have to say that I am seriously obsessed with the e.l.f. eye shadows. They actually stay on all day long just like MAC products do for a FRACTION of the price.

I also tried the mascara which although I do like, although so far I haven't been able to find a mascara that I LOVE (open to suggestions).

Loving this eye shadow brush and the eyeliner. Both products are great and the eyeliner lasts all day!

Big Boy School

My little boy is all grown up! Last Tuesday, September 6th, Cole went to his first day at his new school. It's so crazy to think that my little guy is actually going to school, even though he has been in day care 4 days a week for the past 2.5 years. He used to go to the town daycare and it was very much like a school in the structure aspect, so realistically this change shouldn't be too difficult. It wasn't difficult for Cole in the least. He was excited to go to the big brown school (as he calls it) and meet his teachers and play with all the new toys and since his first day he hasn't had any complaints at all.

Of course Cole did well, but as for me...I may have shed a few tears. I think I hid them well so thankfully it didn't upset Cole, but I couldn't help myself. It felt like leaving him all over again at his first day of daycare so long ago. If only I could keep him at home with me forever, I'd be one happy momma.

As mentioned above, Cole loves school, therefore, I can't complain. My only concerns now are what he manages to eat out of his lunch (not a whole lot due to being too busy chatting...must get that from his father) and if he is playing well with others and making friends. Every night when I ask him about what he did that day he says nothing, and then I ask him who he played with and he says no one. I know for a fact that he is making friends and having fun, but of course I can't help but worrying about him. I'm assuming this is normal, but it just breaks my heart thinking of him keeping to himself all day long, although I can't see that being the case as he is a very outgoing and chatty boy.

After returning home from our summer vacation, I was sooooooooooo happy to see a package with my name on it from Michelle at Living a Life of Love. Summer Vacation

Hope everyone is loving the crazy heat wave that we are experiencing (I am for sure!)

We are officially on vacation and I am loving every second of it.

We are heading to a cottage tomorrow for a week and then we will be spending the entire August long weekend (Civic holiday) with my family away at a camp. So far the weather is looking fantastic (knock on wood) and nothing makes me happier than my family, sunshine and time away from the every day routine.

I'll be back in August, hopefully with loads of pictures, fun stories and more to blog about.

The Things He Says...

Last night at supper we had little potatoes. Cole fought tooth and nail about not wanting to eat them and I finally convinced him to try one. He popped it in his mouth and after chewing and swallowing it, I heard something that just about made me choke on my own food.

At the table, in front of myself and my in laws, Cole said...

"Oh Jesus that's hot."

I wasn't sure how to respond, thankfully my father-in-law said "oh no buddy, we say gee-whiz that's hot".

Cole said gee-whiz once and then decided he liked Oh Jesus better.

I tried "my goodness that's hot", again, no luck.

Thankfully his mind wandered on to something else shortly after. My mother-in-law and I started wondering where he could have picked that up. I say a lot of things that shouldn't be repeated by my 3 year old, but that isn't one of those things.

Ryan came home from work shortly after and put our wonder at ease...apparently he has been known to say this...lovely.

FYI, the potatoes weren't hot in the least.

Please don't comment on how taking the Lord's name in vain is terrible, this is not a common occurrence in our house.

Facing The Truth

I'm 28 years ~~old~~ young and I am having some skin issues. Growing up breakouts were few and far between. Don't get me wrong, I definitely had pimples on picture day or when there would be a dance, but for the most part my skin was pretty good.

Besides being sick as a dog when I was pregnant with Cole, the only other negative part of pregnancy was the acne. My face and back were covered and it was beyond frustrating, but I assumed it wouldn't last.

The morning sickness passed, I've shed majority of the weight and I've come to terms with the fact that my hips will never go back to 'normal', but the acne is lingering. While it's not horrible, it's frequent and always in the same spot...my chin.

I eat fairly healthy and drink a lot of water (3-4 litres a day).

I use St. Ives Apricot Scrub and Clean & Clear Foaming Cleanser (I know...lame)

Since the interwebz is sooooooooo amazing and chalked full of smart ladies like yourselves, I am turning to you for advice.

Do you have any face products that you would recommend? I'm talking morning to night...cleansers, scrubs, lotions, etc. Anything that will help with the breakouts, blackheads (ewwww, I know) and my aging skin.

Wow...I feel old and pathetic.

Advice needed and while you are at it, please send help.

I just finished reading Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me, a book full of stories written by those who are closest to Chelsea.

This book was H.I.L.A.R.I.O.U.S. plain and simple, it did not disappoint. I honestly laughed out loud several times and I was wishing it wouldn't end. It made me want to be friends with Chelsea Handler and be one of the poor buggers that she is constantly tormenting. Her endless shenanigans range from lies to tricks to peeing on someone, yet these people are still friends with her.

I definitely recommend reading this book for a good laugh, it is beyond entertaining.

What We've Been Up To...

Is it just me or is summer flying by at warp speed?

It's already mid-July which means that we are smack dab in the middle of summer and that is clear seeing as every weekend is jam packed with things to do, places to go and people to see. We have 2 more free weekends between now and September and I'm hoping they stay that way.

Already this summer we have:

played in a ball tournament and golf tournament

gone fishing

played ball

had some amazing times with friends

celebrated Canada Day

as well as:

gone to a stag for a wedding we will be going to in August

spent a weekend at the lake

watched soap box derby races

and had so much fun with all of the family and friends

There is still so much more to come, including:

a weeks vacation that is fast approaching (with loads of relaxation time at the lake)

a family weekend away with my parents, siblings, nieces and nephews

3 caterings (my Dad and I cater together)

4 birthdays

1 wedding

1 concert (Capital Hoedown with Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and Billy Currington...yes please!)

Father's Day Gift Idea

If you haven't yet picked up/made that special gift for the father figure in your life, this will definitely be a hit...heck even if you have, who wouldn't love this. It is seriously so cute and so sweet, it will melt a grown man's heart.

Weekend Rap-Up

Yes, I'm aware it's already Thursday night and that I am only now posting about last weekend, but what can I say? It's been a busy week! Last weekend we played in the first annual D.I.F.D. softball tournament and what a blast it was. Even though our team lost both games, we had such a great time and supported a great cause.

Back in November Jill posted such a touching post about Daron's extremely tragic death and how her family and the community stood up to help raise awareness to mental health in youth.

The ball tournament was only part of last weekend's festivities as the girls who put on the event (Hailey, Kegan and Bria) thought of EVERYTHING. From organizing the teams (all 20 of them), creating a schedule, getting people to call the games and score keep, to a silent auction, food, bar, music and the NHL finals, everything was covered. These three girls did an outstanding job and the pictures below show just some of the fun had. From what I understand, a good amount of money was raised to help the D.I.F.D Youth Mental Health Initiative set-up at the Royal Ottawa Hospital.

A year ago today I was at the salon getting my hair done with my girls, exciting chatter, giggles and nerves galore.

Randomness

I really wish I had loads of excitement to share with you all and I should...it has been two weeks after all. Unfortunately, I don't...so here's some randomness to help waste a couple of minutes.

-Lena is having a great giveaway right now. She has teamed up with Brittany Chavers and the items up for grabs are A.D.O.R.A.B.L.E. Head on over to check out her blog, you'll be so glad that you did - promise!

-I have gotten back into the workout routine (for now) and am feeling soooo much better because of it. Let's hope that this is motivation to stick with it this time.

-I finally downloaded a bunch of new songs and have a great CD in my car now. I have been belting the tunes out on my drive to and from work like it is no body's business. Of course on that CD there is some Britney (obviously!), Rihanna, JLO and of course some oldies (Ice Ice Baby...don't judge).

-I cooked an AMAZING supper tonight, shrimp pasta with spinach, feta and baby tomatoes...mmmm...recipe to come.

-We have finally had some sunny days! The beginning of the week was beautiful and oh so hot (not complaining) and then Wednesday it got really windy and started to get much cooler. Either way, I'm just happy to get some vitamin D - seriously needed to keep me from being too moody with my sweet husband.

-Speaking of husband, our first wedding anniversary is on Sunday...awwwww...how sweet right? We have zero plans for the actual day, but will hopefully make up for that some time soon.

-Holidays are booked! It's only one week off work but it will be fantastic. We are staying at a friend's cottage for a week (thanks Suz and Bill - love you both!) and then heading away with my family for a long weekend. Sun, water, family, friends and fun - yes please! Oh wait...I forgot to mention wine.

-My girlfriend Katie had sweet baby Avery on May 20th - her due date and my goodness, that girl is PRECIOUS. She is seriously so adorable and oh so tiny. I just can't get over how sweet she is. Mommy is a natural and a pro, no doubt that she would be though! :)

-I am addicted to reading. Nerd alert? I seriously can't get enough. Since my May 12th post, I have read the Carrie Diaries, Cocktails for Three (Madeline Wickham), Table for Five (Susan Wiggs) and I am now onto Snowfall at Willow Lake (Susan Wiggs - part of the Lakeshore Chronicles). I find reading so relaxing and I need to read at least a chapter (or two) before bed every night. Open to suggestions for new books/authors.

-Last Friday I went to a much needed girls night with some of the best girls in the world. I seriously have an amazing group of friends and while I know everyone says that - it's definitely true! Every time we get together there is a minimum of ten of us there and last Friday was no different. We had a BBQ at Erin's and then spent the evening doing what we do best - flip cup, tearing up the rug and singing our little hearts out. An amazing night as always! I know we will be that group that still gets together later on in life. Love it!

-Spending some time this weekend with Ryan's parents and mine, can't wait to have some quality time with the family. Also heading to a stag on Saturday night...should be a great weekend!

We made it, just under the wire.

Married on June 5, 2010 and I think it's safe to say that all of our thank you cards have been mailed out and should have been received by now.

I was sure that I would have gotten them out so much sooner, but my goodness we have been busy! First off, I was a newly wed with a busy, busy summer of fun! The I ended up getting pregnant and December became the month from hell for our family, and then when we set out to finally print our thank you cards, we realized that our photographer gave us our pictures on a CD and they printed out horribly. Next up, wait for a new CD. When we finally got one we tried to find a thank you card template and had very little luck finding one we liked until I came to my senses and googled.

Thank the Google Gods, how did I ever survive before?

With the help of trusty Google, I found Shari at dolcetto designs.

Shari was so easy to work with, she patiently answered all of my questions and was amazingly quick. Within 12 hours of my original e-mail to her, I had my thank you card designed and delivered to my inbox. I picked a style that I found on her blog, sent her a couple of pictures, mentioned our color and the font type that we used on our invites and voila! She made a thank you card that I was dreaming of in little to no time.

I am beyond relieved to have our thank you cards finally finished and mailed. We have received so many compliments on them and I have Shari to thank for making something that seems like such a huge job such a simple task. My Fitness Pal

I just joined My Fitness Pal and am excited to get started tomorrow.

I am hoping that by using My Fitness Pal to track calories and fitness, it will be just what I need to shake the last of my 'baby' weight and then some. I have been trying to get back into Weight Watchers, but have had such a hard time doing so and I'm really hoping that something new will help to do the trick.

Yesterday I spent my whole lunch hour sitting outside in the sun reading this book I borrowed from the library the night before:The book itself is okay. It's an easy read, but really isn't overly exciting. I have read a few lately that I am absolutely loving including The Lakeshore Chronicles by Susan Wiggs. I am only halfway through this series but Susan's writing is so captivating and I love this series.

Another book that I really thought was cute (and again an easy read) was The Cinderella Pact by Sarah Stohmeyer. I'm excited to check out some of her other books soon.

Blogger Is Driving Me Nuts

Is anyone else having some major issues with blogger?

Lately, whenever I add pictures to a post, it seems as though the spacing goes all wonky and there is no way to fix it.

If I go to my dashboard I can't see the blogs I am following...this is just new over the past couple of days and it drives me nuts! I know I can use google reader, but sometimes I just want to use the dashboard.

I've also had some scheduled posts not post when scheduled.

Sorry for the rant, but am I the only one experiencing this nonsense?

Due Date

I have been agonizing over this date since December 18th, 2010. I wasn't sure how I would feel or how I would make it here...I was sure that I would be a total mess when this day came.

Today was our due date for Lauryn and so far I haven't cried nor do I feel the need to. I am thinking of Lauryn A LOT today and wishing that she was here and that I was able to snuggle our sweet baby girl in my arms, but unfortunately that won't happen and I've come to terms with it.

Instead of focusing on what could have been, I am focusing on what is. I am thankful that everything that happened went as well as it could have, thankful that I was able to have Lauryn in my life (if only in the womb), thankful that Lauryn never had to be in pain or suffer, but most of all, I am thankful for what I have been blessed with.

I have been blessed with...

A healthy, happy, adorable little boy who is the light of my life and a handsome and caring husband

A family who supports me through everything and lifts me up when I need it most

And friends who are the worlds best

As you can imagine, all of the above make for one happy girl.

Don't get me wrong, today is definitely a tough day, but focusing on the positive is the best that I can do and it's helping.

State 10 things you love:

1. My family (of course!) and friends...I have a great husband (Ryan) and an adorable son (Cole), along with amazing parents (and in-laws), sisters & brothers (in-laws included) and nieces & nephews. I am also so blessed to have so many great friends who are always there, you can read about one of them here.

2. Shopping...what girl doesn't love shopping really?! I love to browse online all the time and even more love clothes shopping.

3. Renovating...this is a new love/hate that we have just recently begun to discover. We love the finished look of the project, however, the cost and overall time consumed...not so much. Bathroom pictures to come as soon as I find the perfect shower curtain (open to suggestions...looking for something to match gray).

4. Flip fops...I LOVE FLIP FLOPS...there is nothing better than when the snow melts away and the sun and warm weather finally come to stay. I broke out the flip flops 2.5 weeks ago and aside from work I don't take them off.

5. Summer...Flip flops, sun, tans, warm weather, swimming, boating, fishing, BBQs, parties, wedding season, I could go on and on.

6. Food...I love to eat (hence being constantly 20lbs heavier than I'd like to be). Favorites are shwarmas, anything Mexican, burgers, chocolate, popcorn, butternut squash fries...k, now I am hungry!

7. Water...You will RARELY find me without a bottle of water on hand.

8. Social media...I'll admit it...I'm a Facebook, Twitter and Blogger junkie...anyone else? ;)

9. Grey's Anatomy...Meredith + Derek - need I say more?

10. Travelling...our last trip was to Turks and Caicos for our honeymoon last June and it was by far the most amazing place I have been yet. I can't wait to go back again and to travel to new and exciting places.

What I've Been Up To

Besides being in the middle of a bathroom renovation (Ryan) and my house being completely upside down, I have been attempting to get my craft on. If you know me, you know that I have no artistic abilities, no talents and no patience. I'm pretty much boring. BUT, lately I have seen so many cute little things all over blogs that I had to try my hand at something. So many ladies have made adorable wreaths and I needed something new for my front door. In honor of Spring (even though we had freezing rain this morning!), I have made the wreath below and will be hanging it up very soon (as soon as I add some more to it).

This beautiful Mommy-to-be is 35 weeks and is looking absolutely fabulous! Some of the fire department gang got together on Sunday to help celebrate Katie, Jason and little Baby Jackson. I made two little onesies pictured below (excuse the terrible quality of the pictures).

That's my excitement and while it may not be much to most, it really is for me. I rarely do anything creative or crafty and this is the extent of it. I'm going to continue to try my hand at being crafty, here's hoping it gets better and better.

Hopefully the bathroom renovations will be completed tonight and I can get some pictures up for everyone to see...Ryan did a fantastic job!

Back in February Taylor posted about the things she's learnt about blogging and it definitely helped me out with some questions I had but never wanted to ask or never bothered to learn on my own. One of the things that she mentioned was enabling your e-mail. There are few things more frustrating than seeing this when I want to reply to a comment by e-mail... noreply-comment@blogger.com . Please oh please enable your e-mail... I love getting comments and equally love responding to them, but I can't if you don't have your e-mail enabled. So, please go to your dashboard, click on edit profile, then click on 'show e-mail' and then save! Voila, that easy and then you can continue your conversation by e-mail. Just a thought in case anyone isn't aware of this or how to do it.

Being from a small town it often seems that our days are filled with darkness.
Today is one of those days.

The small town that I grew up in lost an amazing woman today and while it comes natural to say positive things about people after they have passed, Betty really was that good. This woman was a substitute teacher who made each and every child feel special. She tutored children in French after school in her home, watched all of her students play hockey at the local arena and always came out to support the fundraising events in the community

Betty had such a great sense of humor and was always smiling and laughing. I remember joking with her that if we ever got caught doing anything bad by the cops, we would have them call her. She would always just laugh and say I'll be there in a flash and truth be told, she likely would have been.

Knowing everyone in a small town has it's ups and downs. It's amazing the support that the community will give when something happens good or bad. The compassion that can come from such a small town is outstanding and almost unbelievable. The down side is that we see sickness and death so often or so it seems. Every couple of months there is some sort of tragedy or an illness to face and come together as a community to grieve. I know this may come across as very negative, but it's quite true and I'm sure that so many people from home would agree. We seem to be unlucky, whether it be an accident, a death, an illness, we see it often.

I am praying for Betty's family and those who have been affected by her death. May your memories strengthen your faith and heal your hearts.

Surgery

I grew up in a really small town.
A really small town.
A town of 2000 people.
My high school graduating class consisted of 60 students (give or take a few?).

One of those students was Julie Corrigan.

In fact, Julie and I went to school together from the age of 4 until we graduated from high school. I remember going to Julie's and playing Barbies together and listening to Natalie Cole's LOVE

and Julie would sing along like she did to most songs.

Moving on to high school...if you knew Julie chances were that you heard her sing. She liked to hum and sing almost all the time and it was by no means a bad thing. Her voice has always been amazing and her personality matches it perfectly, she is and always was one of the kindest people.

To this day Julie still sings. In fact she has several songs available on iTunes and even had one of her own songs played on our local radio station Hot 89.9.

Top Two Tuesday - Two Random Facts About You

It's been a while since I've linked up with Taylor's Top 2 Tuesday and today's topic is two random facts about you.

1. I can not stomach the feel of loose cotton.

Cotton balls make me almost vomit and I am actually gagging as I type this. If there is cotton in a pill bottle I can't take it out or if I have blood work done and they put a little bit of cotton under the tape my stomach turns until I take it off.

2. I don't drink pop but I crave Pepsi and Ginger Ale.

I haven't really been a pop drinker since I was 16 or so. However, for some reason I actually crave Pepsi (either fountain or directly from the can) and Ginger Ale (with crushed ice) randomly.

Update & Bachelor Finale

Just wanted to post an update to keep myself accountable. The last time I weighed in (March 3rd) I was down 2.5lbs (for a total of 4lbs, 7.5 from goal) and since then I have been pretty good at continuing with working out and eating well, with the exception for the first Saturday night when I had a few too many drinks. Oops...

I have been going to kettlebells 1 night a week and running 3-4 times a week and the cardio has been a huge help with losing the weight, while the kettlebells has helped me shed some inches. I am so happy to report that I am down a size in shirts and pants. I can't believe that after only losing 4lbs that it would make such a difference in my clothing, but apparently inches are greater than pounds.

Last Wednesday I bought Jillian Michaels 6 week six-pack DVD and I have done it 4 times so far. I definitely think it will be a good workout if I am consistent with it (which I will try to be 4 days a week). As usual, Jillian combines cardio with abs and strength in this video and the best part - it's only 30 minutes long. It makes it so much easier to do when you think that all it takes is 30 minutes. If I can ever get my butt out of bed for a morning run and then do this at night, I'd be set! Someday, someday...

I can already feel a difference in my abs (they are hurting!) and I am noticing a change in my body shape even though I've only done it 4 times!!! I can't wait to see what the end result will be. I'll definitely keep you posted on how it goes.

Did you watch tonight's finale of The Bachelor? I am so pleased that Brad chose Emily to be his wife, she seems like such a kind soul and they truly do seem to be in love. I did like Chantal as well, but you could see just how crazy Brad was about Emily throughout the entire season. Here's hoping that Brad and Emily work out and that Chantal will be the next bachelorette.

Weekend Plans

Yes, I am a terrible blogger with little to no consistency...I'm a busy woman, what else can I say?

We've been pretty busy over the past two weeks and thankfully this weekend is looking pretty quiet and we are planning on spending it at home, working on our house. I had a hair appointment tonight with the lovely Kristen and then we went for supper at The Works and oh.my.goodness. AMAZING!!!! I ordered the Red House which was a burger topped with roasted red peppers, avocado, beechhouse sauce & havarti cheese and it was delicious! Mmmmm...
For tomorrow, our first order of business is to hit up Home Depot on Saturday morning to get some tile ideas for our bathroom and our kitchen back splash and to buy some paint for our bedroom. I am thinking of doing our bedroom in Pelican Bay...

The kitchen, dining room and living room is very open concept and we have rounded corners which makes it difficult as to where to change colors. We I have decided on the colors below for the living room/dining room/kitchen:

Darkest Grape Pencil Point

The burnished clay seems to have a pink tinge to it in the picture above, but it's more of a grey tone. I got inspiration from a color card I found a while back at the store and I love it. We may or may not paint anything the darkest grape, however, it will be used as our accent color for decor. We also have big plans for our cupboards, table and hutch. We will be refinishing them all a darker color.

That is our excitement for the weekend and I can't wait! I'll be sure to take some before, during and after pictures to show our progress.

Play Date

My little boy is all grown up!

Cole has had play dates with family friends and cousins, but today was his first time going to a friend's house to play!!! His little buddy from school had asked him over to play last weekend, but we were out of town so we missed out. Luckily, I spoke to this little guy's mom and we arranged a play date for today. I dropped Cole off at 9:30 and they played until 12:30 when I went back to get him and did they have fun! I had to basically drag Cole out of their house (after 30 minutes of coxing/fighting/crying) and into the car. We made plans to have Cole's little buddy over in two weeks for a play and Cole is so excited and so am I.

I can't believe that we are already at this stage. And so it starts...

Amazing it is that we are spending a quiet weekend at home. We really haven't been home a whole lot lately on weekends and as much as I absolutely love visiting with family and friends, it is soooo nice to sit on our couch knowing that we don't have to get up and work the next day and that we can lounge in pjs all day long. Although, truth be told...I kind of do that at my parents' anyways!

Tomorrow we are doing some running around town and hopefully I'll get a chance to begin my Spring cleaning. I figure I am going to start with my kitchen and hopefully get it sparkling in no time. We are also making a list of things we'd like to get done around the house from renovations to clean/sort/toss/sell. I am so excited to finally make our house our home. We've been here for 3.5 years and have yet to paint (aside from Cole's room) or do any renovations inside the house. We have talked about doing this before and we seem to talk about it and then leave it, but not this time! I am going to harass Rye until we get going and I know once we are started it will become a huge priority to both of us.

Tomorrow evening Ryan's parents will come over to watch Cole and we are heading out to supper at Al's Steakhouse (one of my favorite restaurants) and I am soooooo excited! We have a gift card and thought it was a great way to get out for a 'date night, plus Cole is absolutely thrilled to have Nana and Papa over for a movie and popcorn.

I am super excited that I can pick up my ring on the way to dinner tomorrow night. I took it in on Monday to have it cleaned and plated and I have been lost without it. Can't wait to have it back where it belongs and shining away at that!

Sunday Ryan has training with the fire department and Cole is supposed to have a play date with his best buddy from school. This has me so excited and nervous for him as this will be his first time going to a friend's house and not having Mommy with him! And it might just be THE cutest thing ever...my baby is growing up. I guess I'll go do groceries on my own, go for a run and maybe get a bit of extra cleaning in. Sounds sooooooooooo exciting I know, it's the little things that get me these days.

Eat It. Work It. Blog It - Take 3

It's take 3 over at Amber's for Eat It. Work It. Blog It. and this week it's going to have to be short and sweet. If you aren't aware of Eat It. Work It. Blog It., click here for Amber's original post about it.

I've been following Weight Watchers since August 2009 and I was able to hit my goal weight in April 2010. I have gained back 10lbs since hitting goal as a result of getting comfortable once all of the wedding planning was over with and getting pregnant. I am determined to lose this weight once again, (plus the additional 5 pounds I wanted to lose before) therefore, Eat It. is the big one for me.

Eat It.
The past week I have been pretty on track with sticking to Weight Watchers and I this morning when I weighed myself I was down another pound. One pound doesn't sound like much, but to me it's great. It's a step in the right direction and more motivation for the week to come. I am thinking that I will go get weighed this Thursday so that I know where I stand for sure (I am only getting weighed once a month or so right now). My food choices are pretty repetitive these days as it's easier for tracking and I am enjoying what I am eating. That being said, if you have any go-to recipes for healthy, clean foods please feel free to share them. I'd absolutely love some spice in my life. :)

Work It.
Last week I ran on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday on the treadmill and Tuesday I went to Kettlebells. Friday was a rest day and the rest of the weekend was a lot of outdoor activities (pulling snow off the roof of the house, shovelling, sliding and my first outdoor jog!) which I like to include as my 'work it'. I have totally failed at getting my butt out of bed at 5 am for morning jogs, but I WILL do this beginning next Monday. I seriously need to update my iPod before I can do this and I need to get my butt to bed early (it's currently 11:45 p.m....not even kidding).

Blog It.
This week I am going to continue to Eat It. and Work It. the best I can. I am hoping to see another loss on the scale and I am hoping to continue to see a difference in my clothing. I have also been toying with the idea of buying Jillian's 6-Week-Six-Pack and then tonight I saw that Jess mentioned it too. I've heard that it's an intense work out and that might just be what I need to add to my routine.
